restore™ O.R.S.
TREATMENT AND PREVENTION OF DEHYDRATION DUE TO DIARRHOEA
WHAT IS restore O.R.S. USED FOR?
restore O.R.S. (Oral Rehydration Salts) is used to treat and prevent dehydration (the loss of too much water) due to diarrhoea and gastroenteritis in children and adults. It rapidly restores energy and essential salts and fluid to speed recovery.
WHAT IS IN restore O.R.S. SACHETS?
Each restore O.R.S. sachet contains glucose 3.56 g, sodium acid citrate 530 mg, sodium chloride 470 mg and potassium chloride 300 mg. restore O.R.S. is a pleasant tasting orange flavour.
HOW DOES restore O.R.S. WORK?
restore O.R.S. replaces water, salts (electrolytes) and glucose which are the main elements that are lost from the body during diarrhoea.
For optimal absorption, the composition of the rehydration solution is critical. restore O.R.S. has been carefully formulated to ensure the best results. The amount of fluid absorbed depends on various factors such as the concentration of sodium and glucose and the osmolality (concentration of particles in solution) of the body fluid. Osmolality increases with dehydration. The osmolality of restore O.R.S is set at 240 mosmol to ensure maximal water uptake in the body.
restore O.R.S is a very specific formulation which allows the body to absorb maximum amounts of water along with small amounts of salts - chloride, sodium, citrate and potassium. The glucose contained in restore O.R.S. solution enables more efficient absorption of the fluid and salts.
HOW LONG DOES restore O.R.S. TAKE TO WORK?
Although restore O.R.S. does not immediately stop diarrhoea, it replaces essential water and salts and thereby helps prevent more serious problems. Generally, restore O.R.S. should start assisting with the replacement of lost water and salts in the body after the first dose, however it is important to continue the treatment whilst diarrhoea is present as detailed on the carton.
HOW TO TAKE restore O.R.S. ?
Empty one sachet of powder into 200 mL of fresh drinking water and stir to dissolve. For infants or where fresh drinking water is not available, use freshly boiled and cooled water to make up the rehydration solution. Do not boil the solution once it is made up. Do not add sugar, soft drink, cordial, sweeteners or any other fluids to restore O.R.S. Reconstituted solution may be stored in a fridge for up to 24 hours, otherwise unused solution should be discarded within one hour. Refer to the carton for full details about how to use restore O.R.S. Dosage instructions are reproduced below.

ADVICE FOR PATIENTS
- Always read the label. Use only as directed.
- Reconstitute restore O.R.S. as instructed on the packaging. A weaker solution than recommended will not contain the optimal glucose and electrolyte concentration while a stronger solution than recommended may give rise to electrolyte imbalance.
