WHAT ARE URACOL EFFERVESCENT GRANULES USED FOR?

Cystitis is inflammation and/or infection of the bladder or the urethra, the tube that carries urine from the bladder to outside the body.

In most cases, cystitis is caused by a bacterial infection and is commonly referred to as a ‘urinary tract infection’ (UTI).

After infancy, UTI’s occur more often in females because their urethra is shorter and closer to the anus where there is a lot of bacteria.

Cystitis can also be due to other causes such as dehydration, tight clothing, putting off going to the toilet, certain foods and chemicals, sexual intercourse, etc.

During a UTI, urination becomes more frequent and a sharp burning pain is experienced. URACOL Effervescent Granules relieve the burning, painful sensation making the passing of urine much easier.

WHAT IS IN URACOL EFFERVESCENT GRANULES?

Each pack of URACOL contains 28 x 4 g sachets.

Each sachet contains 1.76 g sodium bicarbonate, 890 mg tartaric acid, 720 mg citric acid anhydrous and 630 mg sodium citrate anhydrous. These ingredients act as urinary alkalinisers to make urine less acidic.

HOW DOES URACOL EFFERVESCENT GRANULES WORK?

URACOL effervescent granules contain ingredients that act as urinary alkalinisers. Urinary alkalinisers decrease the urine acidity, which eases the discomfort when passing urine.

HOW LONG DO URACOL EFFERVESCENT GRANULES TAKE TO WORK?

Generally, symptom relief should begin to be experienced after the first dose of URACOL effervescent granules.

HOW ARE URACOL EFFERVESCENT GRANULES USED?

Adult dose: Add the contents of 1 or 2 sachets to a glass of cool water and mix. May be taken up to 4 times daily. Do not take for more than five days unless advised to do so by your doctor.

Children under 12: Do not give URACOL Effervescent Granules unless advised to do so by a doctor.

WHO MAY NEED URACOL EFFERVESCENT GRANULES?

Cystitis symptoms may be experienced more often by the following people:

  • People suffering from dehydration: the bladder and urethra can become dry, causing irritation.
  • People who repeatedly ignore the urge to urinate.
  • People using chemicals such as strong soaps, gels, powders or deodorants which can come in contact with the urethral opening.
  • People who wear very tight clothing or swimsuits imbedded with salt and sand may irritate the urethral opening and restrict air flow.
  • People engaging in increased levels of sexual intercourse.

However cystitis symptoms may be experienced at any time without any of the above-mentioned situations occurring.

  • URACOL effervescent granules contain 650 mg of sodium per sachet which should be taken into account if on a low sodium diet.
